![]() ![]() Membership truly lays the groundwork for lifelong success. Through exclusive resources, programs, and services, members have a unique opportunity to prepare for college and career pursuits. In addition, eligible students must have earned credit in at least 6 courses on our campus and students moving into Horry County Schools must complete one full semester at CFHS before eligibility is attained. You can become a member through a local selection process that concludes with induction into the school’s National Honor Society chapter. Any student with a record of cheating or serious disciplinary infractions cannot be a member of the NHS. Finally, the students must demonstrate worthy character, recognized by the faculty and individual community members as individuals of honor and strong personal discipline. These hours may begin the summer before their freshman year of high school. When students meet that goal, then they must demonstrate leadership and service in the school and community through active involvement in clubs and organizations, particularly in community service hours, obtaining a minimum of 45 hours before they can be considered for membership. A GPA of 3.8 on a weighted scale of 5.0 is the first criteria that must be met. Only juniors and seniors are invited to be inducted, but freshmen and sophomores need to prepare ahead of time, as the qualifying process starts with ninth grade. Membership for the NHS is based on Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. ![]() More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.
